In 2021, the small but mighty Jimny clocked up 50 years in Australia.
In an event sponsored by Suzuki Australia and organized by an army of volunteers, Jimny’s of all ages, variations and with a wide range of modifications came together at Belanglo State Forest.
Illawarra Suzuki 4wd Club were onhand not only as participants but the caterers of the day – serving up hundreds of quintessentially Aussie Snag sangers to the hordes of Suzukiphiles who celebrated Jimny’s 50th birthday.
While the event was scheduled for the Sunday, our club were onhand early Saturday morning to set up the staging area, catering marquees and to mark out the routes for the day. It was a little chilly rolling in to Belanglo early but the sun soon warmed us up and we got to clearing the area and setting up marquees, BBQ and the all important port-a-loo.
The afternoon was spent setting up the tracks with biodegradable marker tape for the following day along with clearing a few spots of fallen trees.
A few of the club camped overnight and everyone was back on deck early the following morning.
There was a huge turnout of Jimny’s from all around the state with JBOX – the first JB74 ever bought to Australia coming along for the ride. JBOX was piloted by Suzuki’s GM, Michael Pachota.
Illawarra Suzuki 4WD club manned the BBQ and serving stations to feed the hungry hoards and also managed the distribution of the commemorative shirts that all participants received.
